Commitment to Credible Community Engagement

Journal Marine Services (JMS) regards a scholarly account of community service as more than proof that an event took place. A publishable article must explain the need expressed by the community or partner, the rationale for the chosen intervention, how the service was implemented, and what credible evidence supports the reported outcomes.

JMS promotes participatory, ethically responsible, and critically evaluated maritime outreach. Relevant knowledge may arise from applied engineering demonstrations, practical safety education, mentoring, local environmental initiatives, skills development, or other collaborative efforts. Authors should distinguish outputs (activities and materials delivered), outcomes (changes or benefits actually assessed), and expected impact (future effects not yet established).

The journal values accurate reporting of unsuccessful elements, implementation constraints, incomplete evaluation, and lessons transferable to other settings. It does not require every community intervention to use the same research design, but it does require methods and claims to be proportionate to the available evidence.

Editorial standards apply equally to submissions from the publisher's institution and external contributors. JMS supports open access, responsible citation, lawful reuse, appropriate community consent, transparent funding, and preservation of the scholarly record. Detailed procedures are governed by the Publication Ethics, Peer Review, and Research Ethics and Data policies rather than repeated here.
