Penanaman mangrove untuk menumbuhkan perekonomian hijau dan berkelanjutan di Desa Wisata Ketapang

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan bertepatan dengan peringatan Dies Natalis ke-20 Politeknik Pelayaran Banten dengan fokus utama pada pelestarian ekosistem pesisir dan pemberdayaan ekonomi masyarakat di Desa Wisata Ketapang, Mauk, Kabupaten Tangerang. Hutan mangrove memiliki peran krusial sebagai penyerap karbon yang efisien dalam mitigasi perubahan iklim global, namun masyarakat setempat masih memiliki keterbatasan pengetahuan mengenai manfaat ekonomi dan pangan dari tanaman ini. Tujuan dari program ini adalah untuk mewujudkan Desa Ketapang sebagai destinasi wisata yang hijau dan berkelanjutan sekaligus menumbuhkan roda perekonomian melalui budidaya mangrove. Metode yang diterapkan meliputi penyuluhan mengenai manfaat mangrove untuk ketahanan pangan serta praktik langsung penanaman 1.000 bibit mangrove oleh tim pengabdi bersama masyarakat sekitar. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya menjaga ekosistem pesisir dari abrasi serta terbukanya peluang pemanfaatan hasil hutan mangrove sebagai sumber pendapatan tambahan. Melalui sinergi antara akademisi dan komunitas lokal, diharapkan program ini menjadi langkah awal yang berkelanjutan dalam menciptakan keseimbangan antara konservasi lingkungan dan kesejahteraan ekonomi.
This community service activity was carried out in conjunction with the 20th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) of the Banten Marine Polytechnic, focusing on the preservation of coastal ecosystems and the economic empowerment of the community in Ketapang Tourism Village, Mauk, Tangerang Regency. Mangrove forests play a crucial role as efficient carbon sinks in mitigating global climate change, yet the local community still has limited knowledge regarding the economic and food benefits of these plants. The aim of this program is to transform Ketapang Village into a green and sustainable tourism destination while simultaneously stimulating the local economy through mangrove cultivation. The methods applied included counseling on the benefits of mangroves for food security as well as the direct practice of planting 1,000 mangrove seedlings by the service team together with the surrounding community. The results of the activity showed an increase in community awareness regarding the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems from abrasion and the emergence of opportunities to utilize mangrove forest products as a source of additional income. Through synergy between academics and the local community, it is hoped that this program will be a sustainable first step in creating a balance between environmental conservation and economic welfare.
