Bimbingan teknis keselamatan bernavigasi kepada operator kapal tradisional di lingkungan KUPP Kelas III Karangantu Banten

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman para operator kapal tradisional di lingkungan Kantor Unit Penyelenggara Pelabuhan (KUPP) Kelas III Karangantu, Banten, mengenai keselamatan bernavigasi. Masyarakat nelayan dan operator kapal di wilayah ini umumnya mengoperasikan kapal berukuran 10-40 GT namun masih memiliki kesadaran dan pengetahuan yang terbatas mengenai prosedur keselamatan modern, karena lebih banyak bergantung pada pengalaman turun-temurun. Kurangnya pemahaman ini meningkatkan risiko kecelakaan laut, terutama saat menghadapi cuaca buruk atau kepadatan lalu lintas kapal. Metode yang digunakan dalam bimbingan teknis ini meliputi pendekatan multisensory (audio-visual), diskusi interaktif (sharing), studi kasus, serta praktik langsung (learning by doing) terkait penggunaan alat bantu navigasi dan keselamatan. Materi yang disampaikan mencakup identifikasi rambu laut, isyarat bunyi, peraturan pencegahan tubrukan di laut (COLREGs), serta pengenalan dasar permesinan kapal. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada aspek pengetahuan teoretis dan keterampilan praktis peserta, di mana para operator kini lebih siap dan waspada terhadap potensi bahaya selama pelayaran. Kolaborasi ini diharapkan dapat menciptakan budaya keselamatan maritim yang berkelanjutan di wilayah Karangantu.
This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of traditional ship operators within the Class III Karangantu Port Authority (KUPP) environment, Banten, regarding navigation safety. The fishing community and ship operators in this region generally operate vessels of 10-40 GT but still have limited awareness and knowledge regarding modern safety procedures, as they rely more on hereditary experience. This lack of understanding increases the risk of maritime accidents, especially when facing bad weather or high ship traffic density. The methods used in this technical guidance include a multisensory approach (audio-visual), interactive discussions (sharing), case studies, and direct practice (learning by doing) related to the use of navigational and safety aids. The materials presented include identification of sea markers, sound signals, international regulations for preventing collisions at sea (COLREGs), and an introduction to basic ship machinery. The results of the activity show a significant increase in the participants' theoretical knowledge and practical skills, where operators are now better prepared and alert to potential hazards during voyages. This collaboration is expected to create a sustainable maritime safety culture in the Karangantu region.
