Purpose

Journal Marine Inside (EJMI) permits responsible use of digital and generative AI tools while protecting confidentiality, accurate reporting, author accountability, and editorial independence.

Authors

Authors may use AI-assisted tools for appropriate language improvement, coding assistance, analytical exploration, or other legitimate purposes, subject to verifying the accuracy and validity of the outputs. Authors must disclose material generative AI use that goes beyond routine spelling correction, grammar editing, or formatting. The disclosure must identify the tool and the specific purpose for which it was used, without presenting the tool as an author or authoritative scientific source.

AI tools cannot qualify for authorship. Authors are accountable for every part of the manuscript, including references, data, calculations, images, analysis, conclusions, and compliance with privacy and intellectual-property rules. Invented citations, fabricated experimental results, misleading AI-generated images, and undisclosed substantive automation are prohibited.

Editors and Reviewers

Editors and reviewers must not upload unpublished manuscripts, confidential review files, personal information, or unpublished research data to external AI services without appropriate authorization and safeguards. Generative AI should not be used to substitute for independent scientific judgment or to generate the substance of confidential peer-review reports. Any authorized automated editorial checks must have human oversight.

Suggested Author Declaration

Where material AI assistance was used, authors should provide a case-specific statement such as: 'During manuscript preparation, the authors used [tool and version, if known] to assist with [specific task]. The authors reviewed and verified the outputs and take full responsibility for the content.'

No declaration should claim absence of AI use if that claim is untrue. Questions regarding suspected misuse are handled under Publication Ethics.
